Information And Broadcasting Ministry Recommends Reopening Of Theatres From August, Say Reports
Ever since the lockdown has been imposed by the Government to curb the spread of Coronavirus, places of mass gatherings like schools, temples, theatres and more have seen shut. While the Unlock Phase I has allowed a few shops to reopen, the one of the worst hit sectors remains to be the entertainment industry. For the past four months, cinema halls have been kept shut and hence, no Bollywood film has been released. Now, the makers of films are opting to release their films on OTT platforms to keep the cycle rolling. However, if the latest reports are anything to go by, the Information and Broadcasting Ministry has recommended the Government to reopen theatres.

As per a report in Times Of India, I&B Secretary Amit Khare indicated that a meeting was held with the CII Media Committee. He said that he has recommended that cinema halls should be allowed to reopen all over the country by August 1 or at least by August 31. The final call, however, will be taken by his opposite in Home Ministry, Ajay Bhalla. Amit Khare is said to have proposed a seating arrangement that theatre owners can follow amidst the Coronavirus crisis.

Due to theatres being shut, the release of many big-budget films has been affected. The list includes Salman Khan's Radhe: The Most Wanted Bhai, Ranveer Singh's '83, Akshay Kumar's Sooryavanshi, Varun Dhawan and Sara Ali Khan's Coolie No 1 and more. On the other hand, films like Laxmmi Bomb, Sadak 2, Bhuj, Lootcase, Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl, An Suitable Boy and others are releasing on OTT platforms.
